Use the separate assigned percentages from your rating decision, not your current rounded combined rating. You can enter up to 16 ratings. No condition names or personal details are needed.
Limb selections are optional. Select a side only for a compensable disability affecting a qualifying arm or leg. Both sides of the relevant pair must have compensable disability. This tool cannot decide whether your condition qualifies for the bilateral factor.

How VA math works
VA combines ratings in descending order against the remaining efficiency of the person. It does not simply add percentages. Each table combination is a whole number; the final combined value is rounded to the nearest 10, with 5 rounded up.
For example, 50% combined with 30% is 65%, rounded to a 70% final evaluation. Rounding every condition to tens along the way can produce a different, incorrect result.
How the bilateral estimate works
When qualifying compensable disabilities affect both arms or both legs, this tool first combines those ratings, adds 10% of that combined value, and rounds that group to a whole number. It then reorders and combines the group with the other ratings. Qualifying disabilities of all four limbs share one bilateral calculation.
The tool also checks exclusions under 38 CFR 4.26(d) and uses them if they produce a higher final evaluation. The factor is 10% of the bilateral subtotal—not 10 percentage points.
Paired skeletal-muscle cases, paired-organ special rules, the amputation rule, overlapping ratings, special monthly compensation, temporary evaluations, and entitlement decisions are not modeled. Do not mark hearing loss, eye conditions, or an uncertain condition as a paired limb. Check your rating decision or obtain claim-specific guidance.
